The Brief
The Problem: Create a conference website with the vital information needed. The Goal: The website aimed to create a seamless experience for attendees, enabling effortless registration, schedule navigation, live session streaming, speaker exploration, and access to a promotional video. For the UI incorporate the conference's theme, "Living Waters," in a simple and visually appealing manner. My Role: Completely design the websites UI and UX, ensuring readiness for a smooth transition to the development phase.
The Process
The Process
For this case study, I had the advantage of previous years' conferences to anticipate what to expect. I began by designing a hero section that provided direct access to essential information. I then incorporated prominent call-to-action buttons for "live" and "register." These buttons serve different purposes—one being heavily used right before the conference, and the other during the event. I added a captivating heading text that combined the main title, the theme, and a concise summary of the conference.
I selected the main colors from the provided logo to ensure visual consistency throughout the website. For typography, I opted for the combination of Inter for headings and Montserrat for text. These sans-serif typefaces were specifically chosen to prioritize readability. The dark-theme complimented the “living waters” title and photo rather than white theme.
To enhance the user experience and ensure all information is easily accessible, I implemented a long-scroll design for the website's landing page. Following, a captivating introduction was created to provide an overview of the conference, its target audience, and the main verse of the theme. This section serves as an invitation for visitors to explore further. Users can continue scrolling to encounter a promotional video, designed to evoke an emotional connection and provide a visual representation of the conference's essence.
Next I introduced the main speakers, allowing participants to connect faces to the key event. The schedule, the primary section used during the event, was designed for easy and quick access to session times. For scan-ability, I implemented a grid-like system. Lastly, the conference location was included, with direct links to maps for seamless navigation. For swift access to all these sections, the hero section offers direct scrolling to each part.
The Results
Through this project, I gained insights into the significance of getting the right balance between a minimalistic design approach and effectively presenting information for optimal readability. One of the challenges I encountered during this project was finding a way to differentiate the conference website from previous years' iterations. Given that the conference has been taking place for over 10 years, it was important to create a design that felt fresh and distinct while still capturing the essence of the event. The theme of "Living Waters" encouraged me to explore ways to incorporate elements that relate to it. The result of the design was a success and I was able to receive constructive feedback.
